About us
The origin of our society – how everything started
After finishing her high-school diploma, Philippa Mund, our 1st
president, worked for the foundation “Fundaction de las Damas
Voluntarias” (foundation of the voluntary ladies) in the context of a
voluntary year. During her work in the hospital Baca-Ortiz in Quito she met Steven,
whom she promised help with the financing of his prostheses. Back in
Germany she collected over 6’500 Euros in her home town Spielberg and
surrounding areas and thus enabled Steven to afford his prostheses.

After the overwhelming success of the fund-raising campaign more
requests came from Ecuador – Steven naturally is no isolated case. To be
able to provide donation receipts, after long discussion and
deliberation the founding members decided to set up the society ‘Sprung
ins Leben’ (‘Leap into Life’).
The goals of our society – what we do...
With fundraising campaigns and part sponsorships we finance prostheses, rehabilitative measures and operations for children in the children's hospital Baca-Ortiz in Quito, Ecuador.
We aim for maximum transparency. Thereto our annual report with a detailed treasurer's report is provided on our download page. On this homepage we inform timely on the development of our protégés and our projects. For more questions do not hesitate to contact us.
The members – who we are...
At the moment our society is comprised of approximately 70 members, many of them are students. We appreciate however members of all ages and all professions.

Local coordination – how our help functions...

The local coordination in Quito is done by Patricia Peñaherrera (read Patricia Peñaherrera intro- duces
herself). She is Ecuadorean an has been working for the Foundation of
the Voluntary Ladies for many years, which particularly care for the
children in the children’s hospital Baca-Ortiz.
This ensures that only those children are chosen who cannot afford the
medical costs of their treatment. As soon as we have collected
sufficient funds in Germany, we transfer the required amount directly to
the Foundation Hermano Miguel,
which then pays the bills for the specific procedures. Any surpluses
are saved for changes needed to adjust the prostheses later-on.
